On la retrouve dans de nombreux domaines, de la mod\u00e9lisation des inondations \u00e0 l&#039;am\u00e9nagement urbain, en passant par la foresterie, les infrastructures et la simulation. Pourtant, pour beaucoup, elle reste abstraite ou trop technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le principe de la cartographie LiDAR repose sur la mesure du monde en trois dimensions avec un niveau de d\u00e9tail que les cartes traditionnelles ne peuvent tout simplement pas offrir. Au lieu d&#039;estimer la forme du terrain \u00e0 partir d&#039;images, elle capture l&#039;altitude et la structure avec pr\u00e9cision directement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re r\u00e9fl\u00e9chie. Cet article explique le fonctionnement de la cartographie LiDAR, le type de donn\u00e9es qu&#039;elle g\u00e9n\u00e8re et pourquoi tant de secteurs d&#039;activit\u00e9 s&#039;y fient aujourd&#039;hui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qu&#039;est-ce que la cartographie LiDAR\u00a0?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>LiDAR signifie \u00ab\u00a0Light Detection and Ranging\u00a0\u00bb (d\u00e9tection et t\u00e9l\u00e9m\u00e9trie par la lumi\u00e8re). Il s&#039;agit d&#039;une m\u00e9thode de mesure des distances utilisant la lumi\u00e8re. Un syst\u00e8me LiDAR \u00e9met des impulsions laser rapides \u2013 parfois des centaines de milliers par seconde \u2013 vers le sol ou les objets environnants. En mesurant le temps de retour de chaque impulsion, il calcule la distance exacte jusqu&#039;\u00e0 ces surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R\u00e9p\u00e9tez cette op\u00e9ration quelques millions de fois en effectuant un balayage depuis un avion, un drone ou une voiture, et vous obtiendrez un nuage de points 3D dense. Chaque point poss\u00e8de une position spatiale (x, y, z), et l&#039;ensemble de ces points forme ce que l&#039;on appelle un nuage de points. C&#039;est la base de toute carte LiDAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explication technique (simple)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Un syst\u00e8me LiDAR a\u00e9roport\u00e9 typique comprend\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scanner laser<\/strong>: Projette des impulsions lumineuses vers le sol.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>appareil GPS<\/strong>: Permet de suivre la position exacte de l&#039;a\u00e9ronef.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IMU (Unit\u00e9 de Mesure Inertielle)<\/strong>: Mesure l&#039;orientation \u2013 inclinaison, tangage et roulis \u2013 de la plateforme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces trois \u00e9l\u00e9ments fonctionnent de concert pour d\u00e9terminer avec pr\u00e9cision le point d&#039;impact de chaque impulsion laser et la distance parcourue. Le r\u00e9sultat\u00a0? Une num\u00e9risation 3D pr\u00e9cise de la surface terrestre et de tout ce qui s&#039;y trouve\u00a0: b\u00e2timents, arbres, et m\u00eame lignes \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explication des MNT, des MNS et autres mod\u00e8les<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Une fois le nuage de points g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9, il est transform\u00e9 en mod\u00e8les d&#039;\u00e9l\u00e9vation. C&#039;est l\u00e0 que le LiDAR r\u00e9v\u00e8le tout son potentiel dans les applications concr\u00e8tes\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mod\u00e8le num\u00e9rique d&#039;\u00e9l\u00e9vation (MNE)<\/strong>Ce mod\u00e8le ne montre que la surface du sol\u00a0; les arbres, les b\u00e2timents et tout le reste sont masqu\u00e9s. On l\u2019appelle aussi mod\u00e8le \u201c\u00a0sol nu\u00a0\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mod\u00e8le num\u00e9rique de surface (MNS)<\/strong>: Conserve tout \u2013 le terrain, les toits, la cime des arbres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mod\u00e8le de hauteur de canop\u00e9e (CHM)<\/strong> ou <strong>Mod\u00e8le de hauteur normalis\u00e9e (NHM)<\/strong>Cr\u00e9\u00e9 en soustrayant le MNT du MNS. Cela permet de d\u00e9terminer la hauteur de la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation ou des b\u00e2timents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces mod\u00e8les sont constitu\u00e9s de minuscules cellules de grille (souvent de 1 \u00e0 2 m\u00e8tres), chaque cellule stockant une valeur d&#039;altitude. Ce ne sont plus seulement les chercheurs et les professionnels des SIG qui s&#039;en servent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cartographie des risques d&#039;inondation et d\u00e9bit d&#039;eau<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Les mod\u00e8les d&#039;inondation reposent sur la compr\u00e9hension du mouvement de l&#039;eau \u00e0 la surface du sol. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un MNT haute r\u00e9solution issu de la technologie LiDAR, les analystes peuvent simuler le comportement des eaux de crue lors d&#039;une temp\u00eate. Cependant, les MNT n\u00e9cessitent des ajustements manuels, notamment pour prendre en compte les ponceaux sous les routes, invisibles pour la technologie LiDAR qui ne p\u00e9n\u00e8tre pas le sol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Am\u00e9nagement urbain et jumeaux num\u00e9riques<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Les urbanistes utilisent le LiDAR pour cr\u00e9er des mod\u00e8les 3D d\u00e9taill\u00e9s des environnements urbains. Ces mod\u00e8les alimentent les \u201c jumeaux num\u00e9riques \u201d, des versions virtuelles des villes utilis\u00e9es pour la planification et la simulation de sc\u00e9narios. Malgr\u00e9 sa haute r\u00e9solution, il convient de tenir compte de certaines limitations\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Co\u00fbt<\/strong>Une \u00e9tude LiDAR compl\u00e8te peut co\u00fbter des millions, surtout lorsqu&#039;il s&#039;agit de cartographier des r\u00e9gions vastes ou isol\u00e9es.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Complexit\u00e9<\/strong>Le traitement des donn\u00e9es LiDAR n\u00e9cessite des ordinateurs puissants et des analystes qualifi\u00e9s.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pas en temps r\u00e9el<\/strong>Ce n&#039;est pas une mise \u00e0 jour en temps r\u00e9el. Cela s&#039;explique en partie par le co\u00fbt \u00e9lev\u00e9 et l&#039;effort consid\u00e9rable que cela implique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Au-del\u00e0 du LiDAR\u00a0: quand il n\u2019est qu\u2019une pi\u00e8ce du puzzle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le LiDAR est rarement utilis\u00e9 seul de nos jours.
